Q & A about Analysis
What kinds of analytical instruments are used for a multi-residues analysis?
Gas chromatography mass spectrometers (GC/MS/MS, GC/MS) and high-performance liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometers (LC/MS/MS) are used for a multi-residues analysis.
Can all crops, including processed foodstuffs, be analyzed?
Yes, all farm products can be tested. Since we have broad experience in analyzing processed foodstuffs as well, we can accommodate whatever request you make. Some samples may require more time than our normal analysis, so please inquire for details in advance.
What is the Positive List?
This is a system implemented on May 29, 2006 due to the revision of the Food Sanitation Law —a system to prohibit the distribution of foods that contain agricultural and other substances above a defermined level chemicals.
What is ppm?
ppm is a measure of concentration referring to parts per million. 0.01 ppm, which is the uniform limit set by the Positive List, is roughly equivalent to the concentration of a 25 meter-swimming pool containing about one spoonful of a substance.
Which chemicals should be analyzed?
There are several guides used to properly address this question. For example, are you “analyzing to see whether or not the chemicals used still remain after checking on a production record of crops, etc.” or are you “analyzing chemicals suspected of being used around fields. or farm” However, all chemicals are subject to regulation in the Positive List. Therefore, we strongly recommend our multi-residues analysis packages, by which means a large number of pesticides can be analyzed all at one time. Our multi-residues analysis package for 630 chemicals, the largest analysis package of its kind available in Japan, is the most sought-after product that we currently have.
What is a recovery test?
By adding an chemicals to the specimen beforehand, we can see whether the chemical is actually recovered or not. This method helps us learn the recovery rate of the chemical with the method, and thus more accurate data can be obtained. We perform thel recovery test to verify our analysis for all the chemicals in all specimen (e.g., for 630 agricultural chemicals, we carry out the recovery test for 630 chemicals, each in two concentrations.)
What are foreign substances or interfering substances?
In general, food contains many substances which hinder the analyses of residual chemicals. These nuisance materials are called foreign substances or interfering substances. We are making constant efforts to reduce the effects of foreign substances to a zero level. Our thorough examination makes analysis of residual chemicals for a wide variety of foods possible.
